UNFPA Pacific SRO is guided by the principles of national ownership and national leadership, including implementing and developing national accountability systems, harmonization of processes and management for results. UNFPA provides support using a human rights-based, gender-responsive and culturally-sensitive approach for results-based, evidence-based programming and policies, as well as capacity development.

UNFPA recognizes that cultural knowledge, awareness and engagement of local communities are vital to aid effectiveness and to sustainability to change.

Through the mainstreaming of South-South cooperation, the use of local capacities is enhanced as well as the ability to share best practices. UNFPA is committed to UN reform to deliver as One UN and has strengthened partnerships with all relevant UN agencies, regional and national development partners and donors. UNFPA recognizes the importance of knowledge management and through its technical and programme services contributes to improved knowledge sharing and communications with host countries and implementing partners while at the same time developing organizational and institutional systems that foster learning and innovation.
