2016 State of World Population Report
The tide of 10-year-olds This generation of 10-year-old girls and boys, the so-called SDG Generation, will play a critical role in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for eliminating poverty, achieving inclusive economic growth, and improving health and well-being for all by 2030, when they will be young adults entering the labour force. This cohort will also be a measure of the success or failure of the Sustainable Development Goals: Will the 10-year-olds of today be healthier, free of extreme poverty, and full and equalparticipants in their communities and nations 15 years from now? The answer to that question will to a large extent determine not only progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals, but also the direction that humankind takes during the twenty-first century.
VANUATU: Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights Needs Assessment
In keeping with its commitment to rights-based development across all sectors, the Republic of Vanuatu (herewith referred to as Vanuatu) has successfully incorporated gender and rights into its national and provincial sexual and reproductive health (SRH) programs (inclusive of safe motherhood interventions, family planning and prevention and management of sexually transmitted infections – STIs – including HIV).
KINGDOM OF TONGA: Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights Needs Assessment
The Kingdom of Tonga is the only constitutional monarchy in the Pacific and is spread over 700,000 square kilometres of the South Pacific Ocean and comprises of 171 islands, of which 40 are inhabited. It has five Administrative Divisions: Tongatapu (the main Island), Vava’u, Ha’apai, Eua and Ongo Niua. Tongatapu has a predominant share of 73% of the total population, followed by Vava’u 15%, Ha’apai 7%, ‘Eua 5%, and Ongo Niua 1%. Tonga is prone to natural disasters and recent ones included a tsunami that hit Niua Islands in September 2009 and the more recent category 5 cyclone Ian that hit the Ha’api Island group in January 2014. The population of Tonga is 103,036 (2011) and there is a high migration rate, with over 150,000 people living in New Zealand, Australia and The United States of America.

The current multi-country programme for the UNFPA Pacific Sub-Regional office 2013-2017 covers 14Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICTs). It is a component of the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) for the Pacific 2013-2017, and is designed to support national and regional priorities as identified in national and regional development frameworks, the Pacific Plan, and the Pacific national and regional Millennium Development Goal reports

Nauru Family Health and Support Study
The Nauru Family Health and Support Study aimed at obtaining reliable information on violence against women (VAW), its characteristics, and consequences. Although the study initially sought to collect a nationally representative sample of women aged 15-64, due to a low response rate, its findings are derived from a reduced sample of eligible womenin a small group of districts. The findings of this exploratory study, however, provide a preliminary understanding aroundVAW in the country and serve as a limited evidence base to create awareness campaigns and education programs around gender roles and VAW. This exploratory study also provides important learning for future quantitative studies on VAW in Nauru.
