International Day for the Eradication of Poverty at USP, Suva Fiji Islands
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) joined the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Pacific Centre on October 17, at the University of the South Pacific (USP), to mark International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.
UNFPA displayed and circulated awareness materials on the World at 7 Billion, and student briefing kits on Population and Development issues facing the Pacific. UNFPA's Programme Associate, Isikeli Vulavou, reported much interest from the USP students.

Tuvalu launches its first national population policy in Funafuti, 18 October, 2011
Funafuti, Tuvalu, 18 October, 2011 - The Government of Tuvalu in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) hosted the launch of the Tuvalu National Population Policy. The policy is the first for Tuvalu which has an estimated population of 10,800 people. The launch took place on Funafuti the capital of island on the 8th of October, 2011 and was held back to back with theNational Summit on the Mid Term Review of the country's National Strategy for Sustainable Development - TeKakeega II 2005 - 2015 (TKII MTR).

World Population Day 2013
There are over 600 million girls in the world today, more than 500 million of them in developing countries. They are shaping humanity's present and future.
The opportunities and choices, girls have during adolescence will enable them to begin adulthood as empowered and active citizens.
With the right skills and opportunities, they can invest in themselves, in their families and their communities. However, pregnancy jeopardises the rights, health, education and potentials of far too many adolescent girls, robbing them of a better future.
